Whites Ferry Gets Stuck! 12/12/08

Missed it by that much! Another 10 yards would have made it but river debris stopped all forward progress. |
Plenty of rescue personnel and equipment. |

Channel 5 covered the event from the air. |
The pile of debris in the foreground was the cause of the
interrupted commuter crossing. |

The only real fear was that the debris kept coming, putting stress on the already over stretched cable. |
It took a while, but the passengers were taken off the ferry and in to the White's Ferry Store to warm up. |

A little cold and late to work but really no worse for ware. |
There were a lot of happy faces on the passengers as they made there way to shore. |

Virginia had a good response on their side of the river. |
A shallow water air boat and an additional rescue boat sit south of the ferry, just in case. |
