The Monocle is published by Monocacy Press, LLC,

The Monocacy Monocle is a biweekly newspaper published by Monocacy Press, LLC. The paper’s primary mission, as it says on our front page, is “Keeping an Eye on Local News.” Each issue of the Monocle presents news and features organized into different editorial departments. In most issues, the reader can count on seeing a variety of “Local News” articles covering our reporting area of western upper Montgomery County and parts of southern Frederick County. Two other regular features are “Things to Do” (calendar of events) and “Big Board” (a more detailed calendar of events.) These two features also appear on our web site—www.monocacymonocle.com—and are updated constantly .The “Police Blotter,”(current police reports and police reports from long ago), Tidbits (short articles on news and milestones), and Business Briefs (business-related updates), also appear in virtually every issue.

The paper also serves to unite our reporting area with a shared sense of community through our common history in “Mystery History” and “Local History.” The former challenges the reader to guess the historical significance of a person, place or event; the latter similarly tells a story of local historical interest. The Monocle seeks to personalize the diverse contributions of our community through editorial departments such as Tributes (recognizing individual contributions), Focus on Business, Pulpit (profiles of local clergy), Youth Making a Difference, School News, and Youth Sports.. “Center Stage” focuses on the many talented people who are also neighbors, and “Reach for the Stars” tells of youth just beginning to showcase their talents. Important topics of particular concern to our rural area are covered by “In the Garden” and “Equestrian”. The “Daytripper” offers a local travelogue—local sites and entertainment of interest that can be covered in a one-day round trip.

The Monocle also presents commentaries which present the thoughts and opinions of the editors on diverse matters which, hopefully, spark the readers’ reflection of the issues presented. Our current circulation of over 4,000 copies reaches homes from Poolesville to Clarksburg and from parts of Germantown to Buckeystown. Readers of the newspaper are encouraged to send information, pictures, and letters whenever they have something of interest they would like to share with the community. In this way, you can help to highlight the appreciation of the quality of life we are afforded in the Monocacy area, and to recognize the contributions of individuals and groups to this lifestyle.
