Hello Poolesville!
I have two quick bits of housekeeping before I get to the main event.
If your child attended any of the Falcon Basketball Camps and did not receive a camp T-shirt, please stop by my house (19421 Fisher Avenue) and grab one out of the box on my front porch. Also, Tuesday night Men’s Basketball will take place as usual tonight at Steven’s Park starting at 7:00 PM (weather permitting).
As you have probably heard, Holly Morris and Fox 5 News will be doing their Hometown Friday Report from Poolesville this Friday (7/23) from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM. They will be doing at least 13 live spots----mostly from Whalen Commons Park---and will be mixing those spots with interviews and background information they are busy gathering this week in a build-up for the big day. To see the treatment Fox 5 gave the town of Fredericksburg last week, check it out at

How can you participate this Friday? Fox 5 (and the town) needs you to spend Friday morning at Whalen Commons Park as we try to show the broadcast area what a great town we have and how proud you are of it. In addition to the many activities we have planned (bands playing all day, contests, athletic events), there are supposed to be many crowd shots and spontaneous interviews with local residents just like you. The plan is to pack the park for as much as the time as possible while Fox is broadcasting live. Signs, banners, company t-shirts are encouraged---the more visible you are, the better chance the camera will single you out in the crowd. Feel free to dress up as a pool! The Poolesville Chamber of Commerce (PACC) is coordinating the broadcast events along with the town. For more information, contact PACC President Hilary Schwab
hilary@hschwabphotography.com or Town Event Coordinator Cathy Bupp
catbupp@aol.com for more information. See you on Friday!
In response to a few emails I received after my last update; check out an excellent explanation of the funding of the skate park and Dr. Dillingham Park in the latest edition of the Monocacy Monocle. After the completion of the Fisher Avenue trail project, the town is headed towards “taking a breather” when it comes to construction projects, etc. Rest assured we will continue to work hard to get grants and other state-funding vehicles in place in order to minimize the financial impact on our taxpayers of our quality-of-life enhancement and infrastructure projects.
Thanks, Jim
p.s. As always, I’d appreciate your feedback and information on anything that has to do with Poolesville as well as our governance of our town. We recently had a resident testify in front of the commissioners that we “don’t do enough to reach out to residents”. I hope you know that I’m always available to discuss town/community issues with you. Thanks to all of you for your continued feedback and support! For more discussion on the issue of town communications, check out the post my fellow commish Link Hoewing penned on the subject on “Blog Poolesville” at
